At JoomApp, we are passionate about creating new and disruptive ideas, and we are always trying to push the envelope of innovation. As a result, we often find ourselves at various hackathons and tech related events.

Recently, we took part in the 5th edition of #DecodeDubai organized by In5 in collaboration with Canon. The theme of this years hackathon was ‘Print Anytime, Anywhere’. The objective was to find mobile or web solutions that bring convenience and efficiency for all printing requirements.

The Day at Hackathon

It was an exciting day which started with overall briefing and team formation.  I am sure, each team had a thrilling time brainstorming and coding during the day. There were some brilliant teams with great ideas! After handing over our projects we all got a chance to pitch our ideas to the panel of judges, which included some prestigious names from the field of technology and design.

We love the overall feel of these events; geeking-out on new ideas, meeting like-minded people and that AHA moment when you finally get that AMAZING idea. The same thing happened for us in this event. As we stumbled through various ideas, we realized that while we kept on focusing on the population which already has access to internet, what if we were to focus on the much larger part of population which does not have access to internet, but still has printing needs? How great would it be if those people who don’t have access to internet could still somehow get access to the app which let’s them get access to a printer and print. Let’s them ‘Print Anytime, Anywhere’!

Outcome

While we were disappointed that the ideas pitched during the event were not challenged or cross-examined in detail. But this hackathon planted the seed for a bunch new products for our company, which we are very sure will soon revolutionize the way people use mobile apps in future!
