When most people talk about Norway, they talk about the fjords, the mountains, the train rides, the incredible scenery and natural beauty. Oslo, the captial of Norway, has a lot to offer- find out how best to explore Oslo during your layover, with these useful tips.
What to do in Oslo for 24h to 48h
Viking Museum
This museum is home to Viking longships found at burial sites around Norway. In addition to two 1100-year-old Viking ships, there are three other ships and a lot of information about life during the Viking age.
Folk Museum
Next to the Viking Museum is a large open-air re-creation of traditional Norwegian buildings from various periods throughout Norwegian history.
Harbor Cruise
There are a few ways to see the fjord and the best way to do that is to take a proper two-hour cruise through the fjord.
The Royal Palace and Park
The center of this park is the Royal Palace, where you can watch the changing of the guards in the morning.
Vigeland Sculpture Park
This is a unique park, dedicated to the life work of sculptor Gustav Vigeland. It’s a delightful way to spend a few hours walking outside, as you pass by more than 200 sculptures.
Shop in Grünerløkka
Located slightly north of Oslo’s city center, Grünerløkka is ideal for an afternoon of perusing small, independent shops. You can expect to find handcrafted goods, clothing, pottery, and various other trinkets of Norwegian influence, in addition to record shops and second-hand bookstores.
