CAN EX-PATS HAVE AN EASY WEDDING IN QATAR?

Qatar is one of the world’s richest countries. Over 500 ex-pats arrive in Qatar daily. So, ex-pats weddings are quite common in Qatar. However, depending on cultural and religious backgrounds, ex-pat couples may consider an easy wedding in Qatar quite unfeasible and search for alternative options. We’ll have a look at the restrictions and evaluate which other options are possible to get married.

WHAT EX-PATS SHOULD KNOW FOR AN EASY WEDDING IN QATAR?

Weddings in Qatar are under the Sharia Law marriage.  Ex-pat couples must consider that it will take from 2 to 3 weeks to photocopy documents and crank out certificates. Among the other things, they will need to present:

  • birth certificates
  • if needed, divorce papers
  • resident permit
  • passport

It is not permitted for Muslim ex-pats marry their partner if is a non-Muslim. In case Qatari men marry non-Qatari women should require permission from the marriage committee. On the other hand, non-muslim marriage can occur only in two types of churches in Doha: the Anglican Church and the Catholic Church. So, a wedding in Qatar could not be the easiest option for those who have very strict time available like crew members.

WHICH OTHER WEDDING OPTIONS EX-PAT COUPLES CAN EVALUATE?

Although Qatar is a beautiful place for living, to avoid the above limitations, ex-pat couples may evaluate easier solutions to organize the best day of life in Seychelles, Georgia, UAE or even online. Georgia and Seychelles require less bureaucratic activities and Qatar accepts marriage certificates from both countries. Moreover, recent family laws make it possible to get married for ex-pats in the UAE too.  Online marriage is another good option for couples that don’t want to travel or need to have an easy wedding in Qatar without doing anything difficult.
